Big Peat (Douglas Laing)
Big Peat is Douglas Laing's small-batch Islay blended malt, containing spirit from legendary Islay distilleries including Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore, and the rare Port Ellen. Non-chill-filtered and uncoloured, it delivers authentic peat smoke, salty brine and medicinal complexity—a quintessential Islay experience.
Nose: Fresh, salty and clean with peat smoke emerging. Sweet malt dried over peat, with notes of ashes, sweet tar, seaweed and smoked beach pebbles. Medicinal, maritime character. Palate: Opens with salty, briny character evolving into sweet peat and smoke. Flavours of bonfire ashes, liquorice and phenolic spice. Layers of ash, earth and coastal brine. Oily, rich texture. Finish: Long and lingering with salty tangy liquorice, smoke, bonfire ashes and phenolic spice. Seaweed minerality and subtle sweetness fade slowly.
